U.P. Commemorative Locomotive And Cars To Visit MCWS

Union Pacific Railroad’s newest commemorative diesel-electric locomotive, No. 1616 "Abraham Lincoln," will be on display in north downtown during this year’s Men's College World Series in Omaha

The Lincoln locomotive, along with the Union Pacific fleet of historic passenger cars, will be parked June 13th through the 22nd at Union Pacific’s "Home Plate" siding, about 150 feet from Charles Schwab Field Omaha, at 12th and Cuming Streets, and in the shadow of the Union Pacific headquarters building downtown.

Public viewing of the locomotive and cars will be available from noon to 6 p.m. throughout much of the College World Series.

However, the exhibit will be closed June 19th and 20th, when the locomotive and cars will only be viewed from a distance.

· June 13-18 – Noon to 6 p.m. CDT

· June 19-20 – Closed (Limited viewing opportunity)

· June 21-22 – Noon to 6 p.m. CDT

The railroad says the Lincoln Locomotive debuted in Arkansas on April 30th and is painted in a color scheme unique to Lincoln’s era.

President Lincoln founded Union Pacific Railroad in 1862 when he signed the Pacific Railway Act, calling for construction of the nation’s first transcontinental railroad, which started in the east at Omaha/Council Bluffs joining the Central Pacific R.R. from the west in Utah in 1869.
