(Des Moines, IA) -- As the U.S. Senate continues to consider President Trump's proposed "Big Beautiful Bill," the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projects it would cut $625 billion in Medicaid funding over the next 10 years. Some are concerned about what that could mean for Iowa communities.
"We will have many more patients who won't have any insurance and won't be able to afford or pay if Medicaid patients lose their insurance," said Ed Friedman, a physician assistant in Redfield. "There will be less income for the clinic, and it will be less likely that the clinic will continue going."
Friedman spoke at a roundtable held by Democrat Sarah Trone Garriott.
Supporters of the bill say Medicaid funding is not being cut, but changes to the program are being made to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse.
