The Douglas County Health Department issues an "Air Quality Alert" for Sunday for sensitive groups in the Omaha metro area due to the possibility of elevated ozone levels.
Sensitive groups include individuals with lung disease, respiratory conditions, such as asthma, older adults, young children, and people who are routinely active outdoors.
These individuals are advised to limit prolonged outdoor strenuous activities, or shorten the amount of time being active outdoors, especially during peak afternoon hours when ozone concentrations are likely to be highest.
Weather conditions are expected to contribute to ozone formation, with forecasted high temperatures near 91 degrees and light winds around 8 mph—favorable for atmospheric mixing.
Wildfire smoke may further contribute to ozone development.
