The investigation into a fatal deputy-involved shooting last week at 48th and Pratt in Omaha continues.

The shooting took the life of 19-year -old Janidi Ibrahim.

In a news release Tuesday afternoon, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office says in response to requests from the news media and the public, the office is releasing further information regarding incontrovertible facts, based on independent evidence, as well as Sergeant Jesse Ronk’s disciplinary and assignment history with DCSO.

Sergeant Ronk’s service history with DCSO is as follows:

• 3 ½ years – Deputy, Court Security Division

• 3 ½ years – Deputy, Patrol Division

• 3 years – Narcotics, Vice, Intelligence, Organized Crime Unit

• 2 years – Special Operations Group (SOG)

• Promoted to Sergeant in October 2024

• Currently serves as SOG A-shift (overnight) Sergeant and a SWAT team leader

During his career with DCSO, Sergeant Ronk has received no disciplinary action.

After interviewing available individuals, to include Sergeant Ronk, and, most importantly, evaluating the body camera video, as well as physical evidence at the scene, irrefutable evidence exists to conclude the following:

• Sergeant Ronk was identifiable as a law enforcement officer, wearing a tactical vest with Sheriff placards and a gun belt.

• Janidi Ibrahim was armed with a loaded semiautomatic handgun during the encounter.

• The firearm in Ibrahim’s possession was equipped with a functional tactical flashlight.

• This tactical flashlight was active during the incident, allowing investigators to determine the direction Ibrahim was pointing the firearm.

• Based on the body camera video, Ibrahim, on at least one occasion, pointed the weapon at Sergeant Ronk and then entered the driver’s seat of the vehicle, and remained armed.

• The firearm in Ibrahim’s possession was a confirmed stolen firearm from within the City of Omaha, reported in 2024.

The Sheriff's Office says this synopsis of information is provided with the intent of continuing transparency and limiting speculation.

This update is not intended to be an all-inclusive report determining justification or otherwise.

DCSO asks the public to continue to be patient as this complex investigation is concluded and presented to the Douglas County Attorney.

At this stage, investigators are examining forensic evidence, to include: DNA testing via UNMC, latent fingerprints, test firing the weapons, cell phone data, security camera footage, existing social media accounts, and potentially conducting secondary interviews.

Investigators are actively attempting to locate additional witnesses.
