(Lincoln, NE) -- There will be an attempt this week to overturn the veto of Nebraska's emergency bed bug bill.

Legislative Bill 287 would require inspections and reports every six months to eliminate bed bug and other infestations in public housing. The bill follows a class-action lawsuit filed by residents of ten public housing complexes in Omaha affected by bed bug infestations. It was passed but then vetoed last week by Governor Jim Pillen. He argues that the bill is redundant because cities already have the authority to conduct inspections and exterminations. It takes 30 votes to override the veto.
