(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa Supreme Court allows COVID-19 lawsuits against Tyson executives.
The Iowa Supreme Court has ruled that families of Tyson Foods workers who died of COVID-19 can sue company executives for gross negligence. The decision reverses a lower court ruling that had limited such claims to the state’s workers' compensation system.
Justices cited sufficient evidence that managers at Tyson’s Waterloo plant failed to prevent known risks during the pandemic. While lawsuits against the company itself remain blocked under Iowa law, the ruling revives more than a dozen similar cases against individual executives.
