OMA Among First in World to Pilot SoundShirt for Hearing Accessibility

(OMAHA, NE) -- Omaha Performing Arts is piloting a new wearable device that helps deaf and hard of hearing guests experience live performances through touch.

The SoundShirt, developed by London-based tech firm CuteCircuit, converts sound into tactile sensations and vibrations across the torso, allowing wearers to feel the performance as a series of touch-based cues. Omaha is one of the first venues in the world to test the technology.

The technology will be demonstrated Thursday at the Holland Center during the Voices AMPLIFIED! event, which includes a fashion show and silent disco. The event is open to the public with choose-what-you-pay admission, including a $0 option.
