(Iowa) -- Local 911 boards across Iowa are calling for Governor Kim Reynolds to veto a proposed fee that may impact their funding.

The fee would allow the State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to impose a charge on local 911 boards. The fee is intended to help fund a $3 million statewide upgrade to the next-generation 911 system, but the fear is it will negatively impact tight local budgets. The fee was included in a larger appropriations bill passed by the Iowa Legislature just before adjournment. The governor has until June 14, to either sign or veto the bill.
