Des Moines Officer Cleared in March Shooting of Assault Suspect

(DES MOINES, IA) -- The Polk County Attorney’s Office says a Des Moines police officer was justified in using force during a March arrest.

Investigators say Officer Chad Ruroden was assaulted while attempting to detain Jose Daniel Rodriguez-Sanchez, who also allegedly tried to disarm him. Rodriguez-Sanchez was hospitalized with a gunshot wound and now faces multiple charges, including assault on a peace officer.

Officer Ruroden was treated for head and jaw injuries and later released. No criminal charges will be filed against him.
