2024 was the deadliest year on Nebraska roadways in almost two decades.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation 2024 Annual Report shows 251 fatalities on the road. That's 24 more than last year.

As a way to prevent crashes, the department says it built 50 miles of cable median barriers along Interstate 80 since 2022. The new report shows crossover crashes and injuries have gone down by 83% since.

The report also shows almost $700-million was invested in roadways last year.
