Iowa programs face impact from AmeriCorps funding cuts

DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa organizations are adjusting to major federal cuts to AmeriCorps funding announced last week.

The U.S. Department of Government Efficiency detailed $400 million in nationwide reductions, affecting more than 1,000 service programs and 32,000 AmeriCorps members. In Iowa, 15 initiatives and 568 AmeriCorps members are affected, including programs at Polk County Conservation and the Seed Coalition.

Local leaders say the cuts could impact college support, disaster response, and essential community services across the state. Iowa is not among the 24 states that have filed federal lawsuits seeking to block the reductions.
