(Nebraska) -- Twenty-nine National Guard soldiers and airmen have been mobilized to assist local fire departments in response to the Brown County fire.

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen declared an emergency in response to the Plum Creek Fire, which is now estimated to burned more than 24,000 acres in North Central Nebraska, killed 45 cattle, and destroyed a cabin. A burn ban is also now in effect for the entire state. The Plum Creek Fire is believed to have been caused by a permitted burn that got out of control. Volunteer firefighters and local fire departments have been battling the wildfire since Monday.
