The Nebraska State Patrol says troopers responded to over 300 weather-related traffic incidents during the latest winter storm.
NSP says one crash involved fatalities.
Investigators say late Tuesday afternoon, a westbound Chevrolet Trailblazer on Interstate 80 near Grand Island went out of control, crossed the median, and hit an eastbound semi.
Both occupants of the Chevrolet, 25-year old Emelin Ortega Rodas and 62-year old Daniel Ortega Marroquin, both of Lexington, died at the scene.
The driver of the semi had non-life-threatening injuries.
Severe winter weather was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
Overall, troopers have responded to 28 crashes and performed over 300 motorist assists since the storm began.
Additional troopers were called out to help.
