University of Nebraska Medical Center doctors update the condition of Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen, who was injured when he was thrown off a horse, while riding with his daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter near Columbus on Sunday.
One treatment was for a minor spleen injury.
Dr. Hillman Terzian said the Governor also suffered a minor kidney injury, and is also being treated for seven broken ribs, and a minor fracture of one of the vertebrae.
He is in stable condition and is expected to remain in the hospital in Omaha a few days for observation, particularly for the recovery of the rib injuries.
The doctor said Pillen has been very motivated to get moving and has been walking some laps.
His office says the Governor has made arrangements to conduct work from his hospital room.
They also say Lieutenant Governor Joe Kelly briefly acted as Governor while Pillen was under anesthesia for the spleen treatment.
