The Drug Enforcement Administration Omaha Division puts the "One Pill Can Kill" message on a new billboard along Interstate 80 in southeast Omaha, emphasizing the deadly consequences of fake pills laced with fentanyl.
The large sign faces eastbound I-80 motorists near 36th Street, approaching the i-480/JFK interchange.
The billboard has what looks like a prescription pill cut and crushed alongside the message “One Pill Can Kill.”
In a news release, the DEA says two milligrams of fentanyl, small enough to fit on the tip of a pencil, are considered a lethal dose.
Lab testing indicates that 7 out of every 10 pills seized by the DEA contain a lethal dose of fentanyl.
Through October, the administration has seized nearly 43 million fentanyl pills nationwide, with investigators in Nebraska taking nearly 80,000 fake pills off the streets.
The DEA Omaha Division encourages family members, friends and community groups to learn more about the dangers of fentanyl and help raise awareness to the significant threat of fake pills.
