(Lincoln, NE) -- There will be more Lincoln officers in school zones starting today.

The Lincoln Police Department says the city's annual school zone safety program will run through May 22.

As part of the End of School Traffic Safety Enforcement Project, additional officers near schools in Lincoln will be paying closer attention for drivers speeding in school zones, ignore school bus stop arms, and noncompliance with seat belt laws.

The department gives out fines as high as $600 for school zone violations.

The campaign is being funded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation-Highway Safety Office.
