(Fort Pierre, SD) -- The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission has denied a permit for the Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline. It's the second carbon-capture pipeline permit the state has denied. Three companies are seeking permits from various states. Their pipelines would transport carbon dioxide from ethanol plants in the Midwest through Iowa to underground storage facilities in North Dakota and Illinois. The Iowa Utilities Board is holding hearings on a permit for the Summit pipeline's path through 29 Iowa counties until September 29th.
