(Lincoln, NE) -- Nebraska State Troopers removed a dozen impaired drivers from the road during the first weekend of a special enforcement operation focused on traffic safety during the NSAA State Basketball tournaments.
From Wednesday through Sunday, the Nebraska State Patrol says troopers arrested 12 people for driving under the influence. Troopers also stopped 19 drivers for speeding at 100 miles per hour or more. There were no fatality crashes reported to the Nebraska Department of Transportation this weekend. In addition to the 12 people arrested for driving under the influence, troopers issued citations for speeding (370), open alcohol container (12), driving under suspension (34), no seat belt (8), improper child restraint (7), and minor in possession (5). Troopers also assisted 142 motorists in need of help on the road.
Troopers will continue the special enforcement operation during the NSAA Boys State Basketball tournament this week, which starts on Wednesday and runs through Saturday.
