Mask mandate lawsuits against Douglas County Health Director dismissed

(Omaha, NE) -- Two lawsuits filed against Douglas County's Health Director are dropped.

The lawsuits were filed by the State of Nebraska and members of the Omaha City Council against Dr. Lindsay Huse after she issued a temporary mask mandate for Omaha back in January due to rising COVID-19 rates and hospitalizations. The suits claimed Huse did not have the permission to issue the temporary indoor mask mandate and that it was an overstep of her authority.

Earlier this month, the Omaha City Council voted to limit the authority of the Douglas County Health Director, removing their power to put health measures and mandates in place without permission from the city council. After that vote, Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson announced that the state would dismiss its lawsuit against Dr. Huse. The suits were dismissed without prejudice, meaning the suits can be re-filed.
