(Los Angeles, CA) -- Nebraska Congressman Jeff Fortenberry's trial is underway in Los Angeles.
Fortenberry is charged with one count of scheming to falsify or conceal material facts and two counts of making a false statement to a government agency. Each felony charge comes with a maximum penalty of five years. Federal prosecutors accuse Fortenberry of accepting money from a foreign national for his 2016 reelection campaign and then lying to the FBI about it.
Jury selection in the trial began Wednesday. The trial is expected to run into early next week.
