Cities of Omaha, Council Bluffs need lifeguards for summer pool season

(Omaha, NE) -- The cities of Omaha and Council Bluffs are getting ready for the upcoming summer pool season, and are in need lifeguards.

Omaha needs about 300 lifeguards to make sure all pools are open full time and fully staffed, while Council Bluffs needs 45.

City of Omaha Recreation Manager Chris Haberling tells WOWT 6 News that they have put incentives in place to bring in the staff they need. “We have increased the base wage for all of our new staff, as well as giving raises to anybody who comes back from last year, we’re hoping to retain a lot of our staff, our staff last year did an amazing job for us.” Omaha lifeguards will also get free access to all public pools and all City of Omaha community centers for the season. Heberling also says if they work the entire season, the city will reimburse them for their training courses.

Council Bluffs increased its hourly pay for guards by $3 last year and returning lifeguards will also get a bonus this year.
