"Nebraska Medicine" has begun work on its campus expansion project.
Demolition and site work are going on in the area west of Saddle Creek Road and south of Dodge, including the former "Commercial Federal" headquarters building.
UNMC and city leaders say the property will be repurposed for an administrative facility and two tech facilities, to be known as the "Innovation Hub."
“It’s aimed at helping folks with bright ideas from around our institution and around the region bring those ideas to market and connect with the university and our academic research in a really positive way to generate ideas, generate businesses, and ultimately generate economic growth around our region,” the Med Center's Brian Spencer told 6 News.
The development will push south down Saddle Creek and will also eventually be home to stores, restaurants, housing, and potentially even hotels.
