(Lincoln, NE) -- Nebraska State Senator Carol Blood announces her bid to be Nebraska's next Governor.
On Monday, Senator Blood stood outside the Nebraska capitol and declared her intentions to run for governor in 2022. The Bellevue Democrat was elected to the Bellevue City Council was in 2008 and re-elected in 2012. She was then elected to the Nebraska Legislature in 2016, and re-elected in 2020.
Blood is the first Democrat to throw their hat into the ring for governor. A handful of Republicans have already announced their run for the office. Current Governor, Pete Ricketts, is term limited and cannot run again in 2022. The state's primary will be held on May 10th, and Nebraskans will elect the next governor in November 2022.
Blood says she will run on four priorities: prosperity for all Nebraskans, maintaining public safety and improving public health, investing in the state’s infrastructure, and encouraging education.
