(Lincoln, NE) -- The Nebraska Legislature's redistricting committee says it will put two separate proposals out for public comment.

Typically, the committee proposes just one plan for the officially nonpartisan legislature to consider. But Republicans and Democrats are unable to reach a compromise. Republicans want to put northwest Omaha into a district with Lincoln, while Democrats want to keep Douglas County in one congressional district.

Republicans' proposed second district would include the southern half of Douglas County, along with all of Sarpy County and Saunders County.

Democrats' proposed second district would keep all of Douglas County together and then add Bellevue and Offutt Air Force Base.

Public hearings will be held next week, with one in each congressional district.
