(Lincoln, NE) -- A familiar face will serve as the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's new Athletic Director
On Wednesday, UNL Chancellor Ronnie Green announced that former Husker football standout and College Football Hall of Famer Trev Alberts will serve as the university's 14th Athletic Director. In a media release, Chancellor Green said he is excited to welcome Alberts as the new AD. "Since his winning days in Memorial Stadium, Trev has been passionate about Nebraska and has gained tremendous experience in collegiate athletics. He knows how to help build competitive, winning programs and is committed to long-term success. He knows how to navigate the complex financial aspects of a media-driven business. He remains a student athlete at heart and prioritizes student success, on and off the playing field. I am so pleased to welcome this Husker back home to Husker Nation."
Alberts, a Butkus Award winner, has spent the last 12 years at the University of Nebraska-Omaha as their Director of Athletics. In his time at UNO, he helped oversee the university's transition into a Division 1 school and spearheaded their newest athletics facility projects, including Baxter Arena and Maverick Park. Alberts said it is a tremendous honor to head up UNL athletics. "UNL has incredibly talented coaches and student athletes, and a fan base like no other program in the country. The future of Big Red is bright. I can't wait to join the Husker Athletics team and get going."
Alberts' first official day as AD is Monday, July 19th.
