The Douglas County Health Department wants more people vaccinated against coronavirus as they warn residents about the Delta variant.
“The new delta variant has changed us enough that people who’ve had a different variant of COVID in the past are not as protected and are susceptible to being infected again with the new variant, Senior Epidemiologist Dr. Anne O’Keefe told 6 News. "The good news is the vaccines are protective against that;”
The department advises residents who have already had coronavirus to get vaccinated, since the vaccine protects against variants.
The health department says there was a 40-percent rise in the number of new COVID-19 infections in Douglas County last week.
