Dr. Joanne Li Thursday officially took over as Chancellor at the University of Nebraska Omaha.
Li becomes the 16th Chancellor to lead the Omaha campus.
She is the first woman of color to serve in the role and the first Asian-American in the history of the University of Nebraska System to hold an executive leadership position.
Li shared a message with the Maverick community Thursday morning:
“What I have come to know as the Maverick Spirit is what inspired me to pursue the opportunity to be a part of this community many months ago,” Chancellor Li said. “It is also why I am eager to hit the ground running today as your chancellor to feed this energy, nurture it, and share it with the world.”
Earlier in the year, she was unanimously chosen by the N-U Board of Regents.
