Police say 80-year old John Kotopka was originally arrested June 20th for First Degree Assault and Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony in the shooting death of his wife, but the Lancaster County Attorney has now upgraded those charges to First Degree Murder.
Lincoln Police investigators say 78 year old Janet Kotopka had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and passed away in the hospital June 23rd.
Court documents released earlier indicate John Kotopka was exhausted from taking care of his wife, who had Alzheimer’s, and was concerned about the financial burden of her care.
