Elimination Day At CWS

The first elimination game of the NCAA Mens' College World Series is Monday in Bracket One, with the first winner's bracket game providing the nightcap of a doubleheader at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.

Two rivals out of the Pac-12, Stanford and Arizona, battle to stay alive in a one o'clock game televised on ESPN.

It'll be the Atlantic Coast Conference against the Southeastern Conference tonight in the winner's bracket when North Carolina State plays Vanderbilt at 6 on ESPN.

Sunday night, Mississippi St. downed Texas 2 - 1;

Bulldog pitchers Will Bednar and Landon Sims struck out 21 Texas batters to set a record.

In the 1965 CWS with Ohio State facing elimination against Washington State, Buckeyes' legend Steve Arlin struck out a CWS-record 20 batters in a 15-inning, 1-0 victory.

The two teams combined for 33 K's, breaking the record of 31 by Santa Clara and Michigan in 1962 at Rosenblatt Stadium.

Earlier Sunday, Virginia shut out Tennessee 6-0.
