Omaha Police say as officers answered a domestic disturbance call at an apartment building near North Main and Poplar Streets around nine Wednesday night, they confronted a man outside the building in a tactical vest, carrying a rifle.
Investigators say the man fired at least one round toward police before turning the gun on himself.
Police say no officers fired their weapons.
The man's name has not been released.
Officers attempted life-saving measures on the male, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
No Omaha Police Officers discharged their weapons in this incident, and no officers were injured.
The investigation is ongoing at this time, and the Nebraska State Patrol is assisting the Omaha Police Officer-Involved Investigations Team.
