Blackstone District hosts BBQ Battle this weekend

(Omaha, NE) -- The Blackstone District will host a BBQ Battle this weekend.

Organizers say the first annual neighborhood BBQ Battle will be Friday, June 18th through Saturday, June 19th. The event will be spread through 37th and 38th and Farnam Streets, with room for bbq teams, a bags tournament, local vendor marketplace, family games and live music.

Ten BBQ teams will be made up of local area chefs from area businesses like the Blackstone Meatball, Scriptown Brewing Company and Nite Owl, as well as amateur teams. BBQ groups will be setting up their stations and getting their proteins cooking on Friday night, June 18th from 6:00 to 11:00 PM. This is a free Friday night event for the public, with card readers at bar stations for local beers and specialty cocktails. Cash tips will be donated to local non-profit, the Women’s Center for Advancement.

On Saturday, from Noon to 7:00 PM, teams will showcase their best recipes while judges taste and score their favorites in each category: pork, beef, chicken, and sides. Attendees also have a say in voting with their $10 entry fee, which includes 10 tasting tickets. Teams will be competing for large prize packages including stays at The Cottonwood Hotel and a new grill.
