Lincoln Police ask for public's help following fatal weekend shooting

(Lincoln, NE) -- Lincoln Police are asking for the public's help in finding who fatally shot a man during a large party Saturday night.

LPD says just after 4:00 Saturday morning, officers were called to the 6000 block of Adams Street for a report of gunfire. Police say when officers got to the scene they found 31 year old Deontae Abron suffering from facial injuries due to a gunshot wound.

LPD officers rendered aid to Abron until Lincoln Fire and Rescue arrived and transported him to a local area hospital. Abron was later transported to a hospital in Omaha, where he died from his injuries on Tuesday.

Investigators say they have conducted numerous interviews and determined that there had been a disturbance near the 6000 block of Adams involving a large number of people who were at a party in the area. Police say around 4 a.m., a fight broke out, gunshots were fired and people fled from the area.

Officers processed scene for evidence, canvassed the area, and obtained video from neighbors and businesses. They say several spent shell casings were located, and officers observed damage to a house in the area. Investigators continue to conduct interviews and process digital and forensic evidence.

At this time, Deontae’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

LPD says investigators are aware that multiple people recorded the incident on cell phones and are asking for people to come forward who may have video regarding this case. The investigation is ongoing, and LPD encourages anyone with information to call 402-441-6000 or make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
