(La Vista, NE) -- The man accused of stabbing his girl friend during a domestic violence assault on Wednesday is transferred from the hospital to the Sarpy County Jail.

La Vista Police say Wednesday night, officers were called to an apartment near 84th and City Centre Drive for a domestic violence report. A media release from the LVPD says once on the scene, officers found a 38 year old woman in the hallway of the apartment building bleeding, "profusely from her neck."

Police say the woman's 32 year old boyfriend Aaron Crawford was inside the apartment, armed with a large knife. Investigators say Crawford, "refused to comply with officer’s commands and officers deployed less-lethal pepper ball rounds to gain compliance and take him into custody."

Police say the woman suffered, "a stab wound to the neck with extensive damage," while Crawford had stabbed himself about 20 times. According to the release there was, "an extremely bloody scene in apartment and hallway."

LVPD says initial investigation showed that Crawford and victim had been, "binging on alcohol and narcotics throughout the day Wednesday and it led to an argument and subsequent stabbing." Two boys, ages 9 and 16 were in the apartment when the stabbing took place and helped the woman get out of the apartment. Child Protective Services were called and the children were placed with relatives. The victim is expected to recover.

Police say Crawford was released from the hospital on Thursday and booked at the Sarpy County Jail for Criminal Attempt (Murder), 1st Degree Assault, Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony, Domestic Violence causing bodily injury, Negligent Child Abuse.
