(Omaha, NE) -- Omaha Police say a man being sought by officers took his own life around 8:15 Thursday evening near 36th and Laurel Avenue.

Investigators say the man was wanted for running from a traffic stop. Police say after he was located behind a residence, he was ordered to drop a gun, which he turned on himself.

No officers fired their weapons, according to police.

The man, who was driving a Camaro, was originally being pulled over for expired plates. Investigators say he ran a stop sign and was in a collision at 34th and Laurel when he ran. There were no injuries related to the vehicle crash.

The Nebraska State Patrol is assisting the Omaha Police Officer-Involved Investigations Team.
