(Omaha, NE) -- A man who was originally facing domestic violence charges is now charged with manslaughter following a woman's death.
Omaha Police say on Tuesday, 23 year old Devon Engel had his charges upgraded from 1st Degree Domestic Violence Assault to Manslaughter. Investigators say on May 16th, officers were called to a home near 28th and Mason for a person with CPR in progress. Police say the victim, 22 year old female Shaleigh Sovey, was suffering from a head injury and was transported to the Nebraska Medicine with serious, life-threatening injuries.
Two days later, on May 18th, Sovey succumbed to her injuries and died. In addition to the manslaughter charge, Engel is facing two counts of Child Abuse.
