(Sarpy County, NE) -- The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners tables a resolution to appoint Trace Jones as the new Sarpy County Treasurer.
The resolution was tabled after District Court Judge Geoffrey C. Hall issued a preliminary injunction, requested by former Sarpy County Treasurer Brian Zuger. The county says the injunction does not reinstate Zuger, but prevents the Board from naming a permanent replacement until Zuger’s legal challenge is heard or until the injunction is lifted. Zuger was removed from office after a state auditor’s report found several discrepancies in how the treasurer’s office had distributed funds to schools and cities.
Sarpy County says Jones will continue to serve as Interim Sarpy County Treasurer until all legal matters are resolved. They say at that time, if it is necessary to appoint a Treasurer to complete the term of office, the Board will place the resolution on a future board agenda to appoint Jones.
The Sarpy County Board is currently reviewing the judge’s ruling and considering their legal options.
