(Grand Island, NE) -- A California woman is behind bars in Nebraska following a high speed chase with children in the backseat.
The Nebraska State Patrol says around 3:30 Tuesday morning, troopers got a report about a Chrysler sedan traveling at high speeds on westbound I-80 near York. The state patrol says a York County Sheriff’s deputy then reported seeing the vehicle as it was traveling more than 100 miles per hour.
The NSP says a trooper located the car and attempted to pull the vehicle over but the driver accelerated and fled. Investigators say the trooper initiated a pursuit as the vehicle reached speeds in excess of 115 miles per hour. The state patrol say the vehicle eventually voluntarily exited at the Grand Island/Hastings interchange. Investigators say the vehicle came to a stop in the parking lot of a gas station south of the interchange.
Troopers and Hall County Sheriff’s deputies were then able to take the driver, 25 year old Ingrid Baires-Duran of Los Angeles, California, into custody. Three children were located in the backseat of the car, while a small amount of methamphetamine was found during a search of the vehicle.
Baires-Duran was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, child abuse/endangerment and numerous traffic violations. The children were placed in protective care.
