Werner Park to loosen COVID-19 precautions

(Papillion, NE) -- Masks will no longer be required at Omaha Storm Chaser of Union Omaha games.

On Thursday, the ball park got updated COVID-19 protocols from Major League Baseball, which will allow stadiums to ditch face mask requirements.

Storm Chaser and Union Omaha President Martie Cordaro tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB that masks will still be required when entering the stadium. "We're only going to have fans wear masks in close proximity to our security checks when they're entering the ball park." Cordaro says once inside the stadium, fans can remove their masks as they walk the concourse and while seated watching the game.

The new rules apply to not only Storm Chaser and Union Omaha games, but also for this weekend's NSAA Class B State Baseball games and any other special events held at Werner Park.

In addition to the mask precautions being lifted, Cordaro says seating capacities will also increase. "We're gonna be roughly 65% going forward and we anticipate that number to grow." Cordaro says buffer zones between fans and the field have also been removed, allowing for fans to watch the games from seats closer to the dugouts.

All other current safety protocols at Werner Park, including the clear bag policy, cashless transactions and increased cleaning, remain in effect. Werner Park will also continue to have seating options available for fans to achieve social distancing. To discuss these options, please call the Werner Park Ticket Office at 402-738-5100.

The Omaha Storm Chasers return to Werner Park on May 25 to begin a 12-game homestand against the Indianapolis Indians and Iowa Cubs from May 25-June 6. Union Omaha returns to Werner Park on June 12 against New England Revolution II.
