Bellevue Considers Dangerous Dog Ordinance

(Bellevue, NE) -- Bellevue's city council is considering adopting its own dangerous dog rules, similar to that of Omaha.

It calls for the bully breed of dog to wear muzzles in public and for the owners of those dogs to carry tens of thousands of dollars in liability insurance.

Critics say the bill is discriminatory and that the real issue is irresponsible pet ownership. “It doesn’t matter the breed of the dog or how the dog looks, it’s how they are treated and how they’re trained," said Roberta Cisar, with a local all-breed rescue group.

The proposed ordinance will receive a public hearing on May 18.
