Westroads Mall murder suspect arrested

(Omaha, NE) -- The 16 year old suspect in a Saturday afternoon murder at Westroads Mall has been arrested.

The Omaha Police Department says Sunday morning, Mekhi Woolridge-Jones was taken into custody by the Metro Fugitive Task Force. Police say he was booked on a warrant of First Degree Murder for the shooting death of 21 year old Trequez Swift. Investigators say Swift was shot near the JcPenny on the first floor of the mall around noon on Saturday. He was taken to CHI Bergan Mercy Hospital in critical condition where he later died.

An woman, 22 year old Ja'Keya Veland, later walked into Immanuel Hospital with non-life threatening gunshot injures. Veland said she was shot during the incident at Westroads.

Police say the suspects, Mekhi Woolridge-Jones and 18 year old Brandon Woolridge-Jones fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Brandon Woolridge-Jones was also arrested on Sunday and was booked for accessory to a felony.
