Lincoln Police identify woman found dead in the backseat of a car

(Lincoln, NE) -- Lincoln Police identify the woman found dead in the backseat of a car earlier this week.

LPD says just before 8:00 Tuesday morning, officers were called to the 2700 block of S 10th on a person unresponsive in a Chevy Malibu. Police say once on the scene, officers found a woman dead in the back seat of the vehicle.

Investigators say the woman has been identified as 40 year old Karla Lewis of Lincoln. Police say there was evidence to suggest that the vehicle had recently been involved in an accident as well. Once the scene was processed for evidence and interviews were conducted, investigators found no indication of foul play.

Police say an autopsy was done on Wednesday, but that a definitive cause of death will be determined following toxicology results. Investigators say around 4:30 Thursday afternoon, an officer patrolling the area located a tree in the area of 13th and Arapahoe that Lewis’ vehicle collided with. Investigators processed the scene for evidence and canvassed the area and determined that the damage to the tree was consistent with the damage to Lewis’ vehicle.

This investigation is ongoing at this time.
