Nebraska Congressman Don Bacon gets first COVID vaccine dose

(Omaha, NE) -- Nebraska Congressman Don Bacon got his first COVID-19 vaccine dose on Friday, just days after revealing he had contracted the disease.

Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District Representative says he had the virus in late 2020, after feeling unwell around Thanksgiving. Although Bacon was eligible to receive a vaccine dose prior to Friday, he says his doctor advised him to wait get the shot since he had the coronavirus.

Bacon's office says the Congressman is still seeing a doctor due to lingering COVID effects in his lungs, but that it's nothing serious.

After getting his shot on Friday, Bacon said that he encourages everyone to get a vaccine as soon as they can. "This is how we're going to defeat COVID. We're gonna see our death rates come way down, they're already starting to come down. We're gonna get people back to work and we're gonna get our life back to normal, and the vaccine is key to doing that."
