After Cold Snap, Residents Await Bills

How much electric bills will go up because of the extreme cold earlier this month is not yet known, but one Omaha-based utility expects them to rise.

"Even though we were asking folks to conserve, which was great, and they really did respond, it was just so darn cold that furnaces were still runing," O-P-P-D spokesperson Jodi Baker told KFAB Radio News.

"If you are not on the level payment plan definitely brace for that. Brace for the chance that you might see an increase."

Baker says because of the billing cycle, they do not yet know just how much bills will jump.

She reminds residents the annual "Heat the Streets" run/walk fundraiser is March 6th as O-P-P-D and "Metropolitan Utilities District" raise money for energy assistance.

It's a virtual event this year because of the pandemic.
