Flood warning issued for Dodge and Saunders counties due to ice jam

(Undated) -- The National Weather Service in Omaha has issued a Flood Warning for parts of Dodge and Saunders counties due to an ice jam.

The areas included in the warning are south-central Dodge County and north-central Saunders County. The warning is in place until noon on Monday.

Just after 4:00 Thursday afternoon, Emergency management reported an ice breakup moving down the Loup River and into the Platte. The National Weather Service says the ice jam is expected to reach the Fremont area between midnight and 6:00 AM on Friday. Minor flooding is still occurring in that area at South Ridge Road at Ridgeland Avenue.

NWS say additional flooding will be possible along low land areas near the river. They say some locations that will experience flooding include Fremont, Inglewood, Camp Cedars and Camp Eagle.

The Weather Service warns that water levels around ice jams are notoriously unpredictable, and can change quickly with little or no warning. They say anyone near the river should pay close attention over the next few days and prepare for additional changes in water levels.
