For Now, Power Grid Holds Up

As winter storm-related power recovery continues in Texas, the "Southwest Power Pool" right now is not directing any interruptions of service at this time for utilities in states like Nebraska that belong to the coop, though that can quickly change.

At this point, S-P-P has declared an "Energy Emergency Alert Level 1" for its entire 14-state balancing authority area.

They say generation is currently sufficient to serve system-wide demand across the region and to fully satisfy operating reserve requirements.

The "rolling blackouts" we have experienced this week across the Plains are to balance the load on the system.

Conservation is being urged.
