Omaha Police looking for suspect in Monday morning attempted armed robbery

(Omaha, NE) -- Omaha Police are looking for a suspect in a Monday morning attempted armed robbery.

Police say just before 9:30, officers were called to the 99 Cent Store at 42nd and Redman Avenue to investigate a reported assault. OPD says officers spoke with the store owner who said the suspect entered the business, hit him with a baseball bat and demanded money from the register.

Investigators say when the victim told the suspect that he couldn't reach the register, due to injuries sustained during the assault, the suspect started hitting the victim again before eventually fleeing the scene. The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing a gray sweatshirt and blue medical mask.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Omaha Crime Stoppers at (402) 444-STOP, at www.omahacrimestoppers.org or on the P3 Tips mobile app.
