O-P-S Decides Against Fall Sports This Spring

The school district had shut down Fall Sports at the beginning of this school year because of Covid-19, and had looked at moving them to the second half of the academic year.

But, in a statement Thursday night, O-P-S told 6 News, “Throughout the fall and winter, high schools sought feedback regarding interest in and the feasibility of fall sports offered in the spring. While some students expressed interest, others did not and voiced concern about the complications of also participating in spring sports. Based on those conversations, the decision by athletic leadership was to focus on a traditional spring season without the addition of fall sports.”

In Nebraska interscholastic sports, Football, Cross Country, Softball, Girls Golf, Boys Tennis, and Volleyball are Fall Sports.

Baseball, Boys Golf, Soccer, Girls Tennis, and Track & Field are in the spring.
