Omaha Police Officer Is Hospitalized After Being Hit By A Vehicle

Investigators say the officer is in very serious condition, but with non-life threatening injuries after he was struck by a vehicle early Thursday evening on the northbound JFK Freeway near I-80-480.

Police say officer Michael Salseda was setting up traffic control at a crash scene when he was hit.

Police also say 29-year old Christopher Guy of Bellevue is booked for D-U-I-bodily injury in the case.

Investigators say Salseda, who was wearing a high visibility traffic vest, was out of his vehicle putting out flares when he was hit.

The investigation indicates a northbound vehicle was unable to stop behind the cruiser.

The driver stated he tried to move to the right but there were cars in his way, so he veered to the left onto the shoulder to avoid hitting the cruiser.

That's when officer Salseda, who was still standing on the shoulder, was hit.

Investigators say Guy showed signs of impairment and was transported to Central Police Headquarters, where detectives conducted a DUI investigation.

They say his test results showed a .305 blood alcohol content.
