A Reminder For Omahans Preparing To Loudly Say Goodbye To 2020

As we move through this Holiday Week, the City of Omaha and the Police Department are out with the annual reminder of the city’s fireworks ordinance for New Year's Eve.

Fireworks may be set off within Omaha city limits from five p.m. December 31st, through one a.m. on January 1st.

You must be 16 years of age or older to possess, use or discharge consumer fireworks, but minors between 12-15 years old may discharge consumer fireworks if under the direct supervision of an adult who is at least 19 years old.

Those found in violation of this ordinance risk being cited for a criminal violation.

Police also point out the dangers of celebratory New Year's Eve gunfire.

They say any bullet discharged from a gun, even into the sky, must land at some location, and the risks are significant for injury or death.
