Douglas County Jail inmate dies

A 23 year old man is dead after being found unresponsive in his cell at the Douglas County Department of Corrections.

DCDC Director Mike Myers released the following statement on Sunday:

"At approximately 9:55 p.m. on Dec. 5, 2020, Daniel Walton, an incarcerated individual, was found unresponsive in his cell. Lifesaving care was immediately initiated by Douglas County Department of Corrections staff and was continued by Omaha Fire Department personnel. Walton was subsequently transported to Nebraska Medicine, where emergency medical care continued. Unfortunately, Walton did not survive. We'd like to express our sincere condolences to Daniel’s family and loved ones."

DCDC says Walton was booked into the jail on Saturday on charges of Domestic Violence Assault, Assault by Strangulation, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

The Douglas County Department of Corrections says they will have no further comment, pending the resolution of a grand jury investigation as required by state law.
